Gum Disease Specialists

Drs. Davis and Cramer are board-certified periodontists—specialists in diagnosing and treating gum disease, also called periodontitis or periodontal disease.

They use conservative, minimally invasive methods to treat gum disease; this includes non-surgical LANAP® (Laser-Assisted New Attachment Procedure) gum disease treatment.

What Is Gum Disease?

Gum disease is the leading cause of adult tooth loss. It is a bacterial infection of the gums that progressively worsens over time if not properly treated.

Due to the specialty periodontal training and experience of our doctors, they are often able to save teeth that otherwise might have been lost to the disease.

Gentle and Effective

LANAP Laser Gum Disease Treatment

With LANAP, there is no cutting or suturing of the gums necessary. The procedure uses a high-tech dental laser instead of a scalpel to gently remove diseased gum tissue. The laser specifically targets the infected tissue and leaves healthy tissue unaffected, minimizing patient discomfort.

Patient recovery is much quicker with LANAP than with conventional gum surgery to treat gum disease, and it is less likely that the patient will have further problems down the road, such as cavities or root sensitivity.

"I was nervous when I came in for the LANAP surgery. Dr. Davis and his staff were so welcoming. I was comfortable during the procedure, and Dr. Davis and his assistant explained as they went. They had me laughing throughout the procedure.

"It was a great experience with even better results. Thanks to Dr. Davis, I no longer have to worry about the possibility of tooth loss."

Customized Treatment

After a thorough examination, the doctors will recommend the treatment that will provide the best results for each patient's unique situation.

In many cases, Drs. Davis and Cramer can treat a patient's gum disease using expert deep cleaning, patient education and home care. In other cases, pocket reduction surgery may be needed.

For severe cases, the doctors can regenerate lost bone through bone grafting or guided tissue regeneration to ensure full recovery and a healthy, attractive smile.

Do I Have Gum Disease?

It can be hard to self-diagnose if one has gum disease, as it does not cause discomfort or pain until very late in its progression. Here are some telltale early signs to look out for:

  • Frequent bleeding of gums
  • Red and swollen gums
  • Gums that have pulled away from the teeth
  • Persistent bad breath or bad taste in the mouth
  • Loose teeth
  • Sensitivity in the roots of teeth
  • Any change in the way teeth fit together
  • Swelling, abscesses or pain in the gums
  • Gum recession

If you are experiencing any of the above symptoms, call us at 123-456-7890 right away for an expert evaluation and diagnosis!

The Relationship Between Gum Disease and Overall Health

Research has shown an important link between gum disease and other serious health conditions throughout the body. Left untreated, gum disease can increase the risk of seemingly unrelated health issues, including heart disease, stroke, diabetes, dementia, Alzheimer's disease, certain types of cancer, respiratory disease and complications with pregnancy.

By effectively treating gum disease, our doctors will help you maintain not only your oral health but your overall health as well.
